Vocational Education

The General (VET) Pathway's programme has been developed for those seeking employment, apprenticeships, traineeships or entry into TAFE, while still achieving the Western Australian Certificate in Education (WACE).

The innovative Programme allows the selection from Certificates being offered within the Kalgoorlie region and online options. All students therefore work towards a Nationally Recognised Certificate Qualification. General VET Pathway students are automatically enrolled in WORKPLACE LEARNING which allows 'job sampling' and valuable experience, industry contacts and 'points' towards a future TAFE entry if desired.

The General VET Programme has a compulsory 'work placement' component.

Employment Success

We congratulate our 2016 VET students who have successfully found employment. We have heard of many reports of students who have gained apprenticeships this year. Well done..

A special mention is given to our 2016 Year 11 students who, after completing one year of the VET program, were able to gain apprenticeships for 2017. We say congratulations to Justin Brown, Emilio Jansen, Joe Kemp and Morgan Moloney-Sands and wish you every success in your career.

2016 Award Winners Profile

Year 12 – Jack Basely

Jack enrolled in the VET Program in 2015 as a Year 11 student. That year he successfully completed a Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Pre-Apprenticeship) at TAFE. He attended Work Placement on Tuesdays at Hahn Electrical. His supervisor reported that he was keen, he fitted in well and he asked lots of good questions. In 2016 Jack completed his Certificate II in Engineering while working at Roly Industries. Again, his supervisor complemented his ability to fit in with the staff there. Last year Jack began his apprenticeship with Roly Industries.

Year 11- Emma McFall

Emma joined the VET program in 2016 where she enrolled in a Certificate II in Community Service to start her career as a child care worker. She completed her certificate course before the end of Semester 1, then began working on her Certificate III in Child Care. Emma's supervisor at her workplace, Kids on Carrington Child Care Centre, reported that Emma was diligent in her duties and showed impressive work ethic. Emma was offered a School Based Traineeship by her employer and is enjoying her learning experiences.
